If you really want to delve into understanding the science of interpreting results when using computer adaptive testing, Daniel Deutscher will provide the meat you’ll need to gain more than just basic understanding to clinically interpret scores.

How is it determined that the change you are seeing in the patient’s score is clinically relevant? Is it reliable? You already know that the questions a patient responds varies and is dependent upon the patient’s individual responses. How exactly can the score not only be accurately determined but also consistent in its interpretation?

No worries, Daniel will bring the science to life and help you interpret the scores accurately. He will share the concept of functional staging. Through functional staging a score will have more meaning and allow patients and clinicians and payers to picture how a patient is able to function.

In the event this conference is new to you, here are the thoughts from an attendee from last year’s conference:

Interaction w/ other clinicians and their outlook on FOTO and how to better utilize the tool. Also the presentations on how to engage staff and patients to get better outcomes and compliance.

The content of the conference revolves around outcomes: sharing the science,  helping with implementation, understanding data, using the data clinically, increasing patient engagement, marketing and discussing payer contracts focused on value based purchasing.

Still not sure if this conference is for you?   {{cta(‘b6977770-81d8-4ca9-9d26-c8fcd57b812d’)}}

I’ll keep you updated via blog posts about the conference topics as I learn the details, so stay tuned!

Until next time,

One of the hottest topics you may hear will revolve around value based care in the worker compensation world. FOTO’s Outcomes Conference held in Denver, Colorado from September 27th – September 29th provides insight on all aspects involving outcomes. This session will delve into necessary changes for value based care to be a part of worker compensation payment models.

If you think about it, worker compensation is a complex topic. Each state has differing levels of oversight and regulations for worker compensation situations.  From a clinical perspective, there are aspects that clinicians are not able to control: if an injured worker is happy with her work environment or if an employer will allow return to work at partial capacity. How are outcomes defined? Is it return to work at full capacity? Is it return to partial duty? And how does a clinician attain the desired outcomes when more times than not there is a high amount of utilization review occurring every step of the way.

This year we welcome Randall Lea to share the results of his study that revolved around a survey of providers, regulators and payers. The focus of the survey was to attain thoughts of the study participants about value based care in the realm of worker compensation.  Randall is Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital. Besides being an orthopaedic surgeon, he more recently graduated from the Dartmouth Master of Public Health Program (MPH) at Dartmouth’s Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice.

Hear what Randall learned via the survey – both the positive and negative findings. Unlike other medical professionals, rehabilitation professionals may be a bit further ahead in the area of outcomes and defining positive outcomes. In order to move forward with a value based initiative, you will learn the hurdles to overcome and concepts to consider when negotiating contracts for worker compensation payment models.
